|Personality Overview||Xander is not a particularly social person but is usually friendly, with a sarcastic sense of humour. However, since his mishap he has become described as increasingly irritable. He doesn’t easily allow people to get too close and it take time to earn his trust. When he does let someone in, he is loyal and fiercely protective of them and his tone becomes warmer. Alexander is a career Starfleet Officer, though recent events have caused him to consider resigning his commission and finding work on Earth as a civilian lawyer. He prefers to be called Xander, rather than Alex.|
|Ambitions, Hobbies and Interests||Due to his career diversion, Alexander is aiming to return to flying fighters in the next five years and command of his own Carrier Air Wing. Alexander’s biggest passion is flying, his second biggest passion is swimming. He was part of swim teams at high school and during his time at the Academy and he continues to spend time swimming on the holodeck. Xander also enjoys spending time in the gym. His more sedentary pursuits include; playing the guitar and reading political and military books.|

|Pre-Starfleet History||Alexander B. Mitchell was born in Baltimore, Maryland to parents who were both Starfleet Medical Officers. His parents were loving, but often one or the other was absent due to the demands of their Starfleet Careers. While they had hopes of his following them into the medical profession, even if he didn’t join Starfleet, Xander knew that a medical career wasn’t for him. Instead he developed an interest in flying from an early age and as he grew older knew that a career in Starfleet would provide the best opportunity for that.
Originally his dream was to fly capital ships and find himself at the helm of one of the new Galaxy-class starships but during a flight demonstration he attended when he was in high school, his dream soon changed to fly fighters and he focused his efforts into earning the grades to attend the academy with the aim of becoming a fighter pilot.
When he was in high school, he decided to teach himself to play the guitar and while he enjoys playing it to unwind, he isn’t confident enough in his abilities to play in front of others. During the two years of the Dominion War, Alexander had to live with his grandparents while his parents served on the frontlines of the war.
He was always, and continues to be, fiercely protective of his younger sisters. While he found them annoying at times, especially when he was trying to spend some alone time with boyfriends during his later teenage years, he loves both sisters deeply and would do anything for them.
|Starfleet Service History||When he turned 18 in 2376, with the Dominion War just ending, Xander applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted, beginning the journey towards his ultimate goal. He found adapting to the more rigid life in Starfleet fairly easy and, not being a social person, was not easily distracted from his studies. In the second year Alexander did start dating a fellow cadet, Sebastian Jones.
Alexander graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2380 with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, was commissioned an Ensign and assigned to a fighter squadron embarked onboard the U.S.S. Ashdown. Within his first year he was promoted to Flight Leader and outside of his duties he also began a long-distance study course to gain a law degree and become a qualified JAG Officer.
After two years on the Ashdown, Alexander was promoted to Lieutenant j.g. and assigned to the U.S.S. Belfast as a Squadron XO while continuing his legal studies. Lieutenant j.g. Mitchell would spend two years as Squadron XO onboard the Belfast until he received new orders to report aboard the U.S.S. Mountbatten once again serving as Squadron XO.
The following year he was promoted again, this time to Lieutenant. It was also during this year that he completed his legal studies and qualified as a Starfleet Judge Advocate. This allow the Wing Commander to assign him additional duties as Wing Legal Officer for those members of the Aerospace Wing requiring legal advice.
Lieutenant Mitchell remained onboard the Mountbatten as Squadron Commanding Officer and Wing Legal Officer for a further two years. His time onboard the Mountbatten would come to a swift end. Returning from a Combat Air Patrol, he made a manual landing, which was normal for the pilots of the Mountbatten.
During the landing, a stabilizing gyro failed and Xander wasn’t able to maintain control. The fighter crashed onto the flight deck. He broke a leg and an arm in the crash and a member of the deck crew, Crewman Paul Collins, lost a leg.
The investigators determined that Alexander had been negligent in his checks performed prior to the flight. He was court martialed, charged with negligence. Ultimately, he was cleared of wrongdoing when it was found that the stabilizing gyro had a previously undetected fault that occurred during fabrication.
Following the trial, Xander found himself hesitant to climb back into the cockpit of a fighter. While he pushed himself to get back to work, it no longer felt right. The idea of requesting a JAG billet instead crossed his mind, as did the idea of resigning his commission and finding work as a civilian lawyer. It was his CO, Commander Murphy, who recommended that Xander undergo six months back on Earth training on the new Quantum Slipstream Drives and retain to fly starships instead.
Alexander felt this would be a real challenge of his talents and agreed to undergo the training. He left the Mountbatten soon after and reported to Starfleet Academy’s Boscombe Down campus to begin certification training. The training was more of a challenge than Xander had anticipated, operating the QSD was so much more involved than anything he had experienced before.
After the toughest six months in Alexander’s career, he certified on the Quantum Slipstream Drive and was assigned duties at the Starfleet Legal Services Office in London until an appropriate assignment became available. That came eleven weeks later when he received orders to report aboard the Nebula-class U.S.S. Roehampton as her new Chief Flight Operations Officer.
