Episode 3: Something Wicked This Way Comes
Location: Main Engineering; Transporter Room Two
Dived, having just changed into his uniform and tool belt following the Captain’s gathering, walked into Engineering with a cup of red leaf tea in his hands. While he was uncomfortable in such a social event, it did grant him the opportunity to see how his shipmates felt about having a Cardassian among them. Their response was encouraging enough for him to believe that maybe this was a place that he would not have to deal with the usual prejudices that came from being a member of his race. He would turn his focus from the evening's proceedings to the information on the master systems display table. All systems seemed optimal, but so did they when the ship began vibrating after warp six during launch. This malfunction made him wonder what other systems could be faulty and he had spent his entire first day as Delta Shift supervisor going over the main deflector shields. Tonight he would decided he should focus on the personal transporters, a system he knew very well.
Hours later, Dived was opening the access panel open for the pad in transporter room two. He proceeded to carefully go over each component piece by piece. He confirmed the quantum resonance oscillator to be in working order with the help of his Coil Scanner and quickly did the same to the Heisenberg compensator using a Synchronic Meter. Luckily, he had failed to find a problem with a single transporter and felt perfectly safe putting his life and the lives of others in their electronic “hands”. Just as the engineer was closing the access panel, the intercom came to life. “ Chief Petty Officer Dived Dumet, please report to transporter room two in tactical gear. Repeat. Chief Petty Officer Dived Dumet, please report to transporter room two in tactical gear.”
With an exasperated sigh, Dived put his tools back into his belt and headed back to his quarters. He had to rush to be able to make the required change before returning to this very room. This was going to be a long day.
