Tomorrow is Another Day

Posted on Saturday January 16th, 2021 @ 8:26pm by Lieutenant Commander Deila Fargold

"Chief Strategic Operations Officer's personal log, entry 1."

"I suppose there's not ever an easy way to adjust to a new assignment, but I can say with certainty that moving from the Panama was the hardest changes of assignment I've been through. Six years is a long time to form friendships and bonds with the crew."

"Well, there's no use moping about it. Becoming the chief of any department on a starship is an amazing opportunity, but I wish it could have happened aboard the Panama. Captain Ramon personally saw me off, but I could tell he was sorry to see me go. Same with Commander Kosal. I SWEAR I saw him shed a tear, Vulcan training or no. Then again, maybe that's just wishful thinking."

She pauses for a few moments, halting her pacing around her quarters. She sat down at the edge of her bed and sighed, resting her head in her hands. Or rather, hand.

"Those six years were some of the best in my life. As a Starfleet officer, I understand that my duty requires me to sometimes have to adapt to change...but it's hard."

"This is no easier than getting used to the prosthesis. Even today...it sometimes hurts. I still remember the feeling of loss when I was lying on the biobed, and I looked down to where my left arm used to be....but it was gone. I couldn't feel any pain...I couldn't feel ANYTHING in my arm any more..."

She paused again, shaking her head.

"No, this is just self pity. I lost my arm, but as the Borg say, I adapted. I continued on like I had always done, excelling in everything I did, making my captain proud. The Nogura is just another chapter of my story, and all I can do about it is accept it."

"I'll make new friends, see new phenomena no officer has seen before, and I'll give my dying breath to help this crew in the days ahead. Tomorrow is another day, and I'll make the most of it."

"End log."
